A week in Tuscany

A trip somewhere beautiful is all it takes to remind me I have a brilliant job and last week I left the office and headed to Italy. A week exploring Tuscany, hiking on the gorgeous island of Elba, cycling through wine country and kayaking through a nature reserve. For most of the week though we were eating, eating, more eating and of course being offered locally produced wines.

I knew this would be a test but I wasn’t expecting to experience the most amazing 8 course meal with wines pared with each course. The evening at Il Termine on Elba island was incredible.  We started off with three appetisers, eaten in the olive groves as the sun went down. Bliss. Taking our personalised glasses we moved to the main event, sitting outside enjoying the warm evening and working our way through course after delicious course.  All paired with white, red, rose, prosecco then desert wines.  I must admit I was a little gutted not to be getting involved.  I wasn’t tempted to give in and I was glad to avoid the sore head the morning after but I did feel like I missed out on the full experience by sticking to water.

I made sure to balance things though. Where I missed out on wine I made sure to indulge in cheese. And pasta. And bread. Lots more cheese and the most enormous gelato!
