I’ll admit it, I have a thing for quirky fabric. Even though I have more than enough in my stash, and nowhere near enough space to store more, I can’t help keeping an eye out for new patterns.
One of the best tips I can give is to find your nearest haberdashery shop and make friends with the staff. Go there often, support them and as well as finding great fabrics you’ll benefit from their knowledge too. I’m lucky to have a great independent shop in walking distance. Sew Busy is fast becoming my second home, and I shouldn’t admit it, but I also ordered online from them the other day because I felt embarrassed buying more fabric so soon after being in the shop.
There are so many great online options too. Sure there is a slight worry that you can’t see it in person and feel how soft it is, the weight and the exact colours but if you stick to what you are looking for, and don’t fall down the rabbit hole of sales and offers you’ll be fine! My go-to website is Fabric Yard, they have so many amazing prints that it’s impossible not to find something you like.
Instagram is another great way to find new suppliers. Follow your sewing favourites and keep an eye on their tags, you’ll soon find even more places to fulfil your fabric needs!
